| The first thing you hear when you get out of your car is the breeze sighing in the oak trees, closely followed, perhaps, by the call of a bird soaring on the air currents. And that is probably as much as you will hear for the rest of your stay in this beautiful and unusual house. This is a very modern house, defined by a handsome round stone turret that contrasts pleasingly with the otherwise white walls of the house. When you first walk into the house your eyes are drawn to the superb view framed by the huge windows – an uninterrupted vista of the exquisite bays of the north east coast, on to the centre of the island. A lovely, mosaic-tiled, kidney-shaped swimming pool seems to spill right over the hillside. Despite its privacy, the house is not isolated – a tiny hamlet lies just a little further up the road, and the coastal resorts of Kalami, St Stephano and Kassiopi are all within ten to fifteen minutes drive away. Photographers will be in their element – walk down the road back to the coast for a series of fantastic views – but get someone to pick you up at the bottom of the hill! |
