| Only a short walk away from the beaches and other facilities of Kalami, few other houses can boast such a splendidly relaxed atmosphere – surely the first requirement of a successful holiday. Kiparissi is so well-hidden from sight that few people even know of its existence. Approached by a long drive that winds up from the beach front, the villa is set in its own extensive mature grounds, ensuring a good degree of privacy, yet it is only a few minutes’ walk to Kalami itself. The lovely garden makes a perfect setting for the swimming pool, where terraces are thoughtfully equipped for al fresco lounging and dining. Built on two levels, the house is light and airy, with a high-ceilinged sitting room dominated by huge, invitingly squashy sofas and a fireplace. The entire living area opens on to the wide terrace that runs the whole length of the villa, overlooking the pool and a heavenly view of Kalami Bay, one that Lawrence Durrell might have contemplated when he lived at the nearby White House – the Bay of Kalami, framed by the graceful spires of cypress tress, with water shades from the deepest green to pale aquamarine. |
