Loja is situated in the western side of the province of Granada. It is surrounded by the  Sierras de Loja, of which the highest peak, Sierra Gorda, stands 1,671 metres above sea-level.

Events and festivals

Easter: Easter at Loja stands out due to its originality. It has very peculiar characters as the uncle Puchi-Puchi, in charge of picking up the armaos of the Romans who march on Wednesday’s parade. The Incensarios remain the whole time in the streets burning incense, singing religious songs and collecting alms for the Holy Sepulchre through the mouth of the “pedior”. On Thursday is the turn of the White Incensarios, and on Friday the turn of the Black Incensarios. Finally, on Easter Sunday, the so called Women Fair is celebrated.

End August: Celebrations in honour of the Virgen de la Caridad – Main Fair; cultural and sport activities, bulls events, fireworks and music performances
