Kokkokilas & Porta

Destination Information

This destination

Kokkokilas is one of the ancient stone hamlets built high on the slopes of Mt Pantocrator, overlooking superb views of the sea and Albania. With long hours of sun, this is a landscape where olive groves give way to almond trees and occasional vineyards, scattered with the beehives from which the wonderful local honey is produced. This is real 'get-away-from-it-all' country, perfect for walking, but not by any means cut off - the amenities of St Stephano and Kassiopi are only a few minutes drive away. Couples and families alike will love the seclusion and space of this highland area, with its abundant wildlife.

Porta is a small mountain village where life remains largely unchanged. High on the uplands overlooking the northeast coast of Corfu, it is easily accessible by car but forms the starting point for some wonderful walks, some of them quite demanding and a test for serious ramblers. From here tracks radiate to connect the village with Rou, Nissaki and Kassiopi, leading to abandoned villages and quarries and revealing a Corfu that is still firmly entrenched in the past.
