Corfu’s northern coastline presents yet another of the contrasts that characterize the island. The lower slopes of Mount Pantocrator drop gently down to the shoreline, creating a succession of long, sandy bays and low-lying headlands, while the upper slopes fold protectively about some very old, very beautiful villages.
The bays of Kalamaki and St Spiridon are just two of the magnificent beaches in this
area, just wonderful for family holidays. Fringed with tamarisk trees and old olive groves, these bays exude the sort of seaside atmosphere for which everyone feels nostalgic – long days on the beach, fresh fish for lunch, simple pleasures.
New Perithia is a fairly modern village with a number of useful amentities, while the original and very ancient mountain village of Old Perithia is one of Corfu’s surprises.
