La Bagatelle's style is understated chic - polished dark wooden floors, white walls, antique beds and designer cotton fabrics. The tropical surroundings are enhanced by the beautiful gardens; bougainvillea grows up the walls, poinsettias and blue thunbergia blossoms hang from the railings, mixing with fragrant white ginger lilies and bamboo. The discreet owners of La Bagatelle live next door and for those feeling vaguely energetic their tennis court below the house is available. For the adventurous, there are excellent diving and hiking opportunities are nearby. However, if you simply want to relax, you can indulge in the panoramic views and sip cocktails by the crystal clear swimming pool. With a housekeeper who prepares all meals, you won't have to worry about who is cooking dinner.

Destination introduction

The south of St Lucia is where the attractions are more natural, and nowhere more so than the dramatic twin peaks of The Pitons that dominate the skyline in the south west. There is also a spectacular rainforest with its diverse flora and fauna, and even a drive-in volcano, which are both very popular. Here the pace of life is unhurried and this is what some would say is the real St Lucia that is still virtually untouched by commercialism. This can mean that local restaurants and shops are not as sophisticated in the north but does mean that you will get a real flavour of Island life. The best beaches are at Anse Cochon, Anse Chastanet and Jalousie Bay – directly between the Pitons.
