When the frankly modern becomes overwhelming, step back into Dubai’s past by visiting the older quarters of Deira and Bur Dubai, on either side of Dubai Creek with atmospheric alleyways and old buildings and souks – especially the Gold, Perfume and Spice Souks. Other attractions include the Dubai Museum, the Grand Mosque and the Sheikh Saeed Al-Maktoum House. Deira is particularly lively and cosmopolitan, with attractive gardens and terrific shopping facilities.
