Riad Si Said

This destination:

Like so many of the riads of Marrakech, an unassuming exterior and a backstreet Medina setting give no hint of the opulence and splendour that lie within the walls of Riad Si Said.

Located right next door to the Bahia Palace, the riad was in fact at one time the harem of the mistresses of the master of the Palace, the Grand Vizier. Romantic fiction would have us believe that life in the harem was lived amidst splendid surroundings. That may or may not be true, but the traveler staying at the Riad Si Said will certainly enjoy surroundings that are sumptuous, comfortable, and subtly enhanced by contemporary influences. Recently refurbished, the Riad has two elegant interior patios, one featuring large palm trees, the other forming the setting for a large swimming pool. The guestrooms and suites are spacious and exquisitely decorated, with lavish use of superb fabrics in thoughtful compositions of colour and texture.

The traditional Moroccan techniques of tadellakt and zellij are displayed here at their best, and a visit to the neighbouring Museum of Moroccan Art, the Dar Si Said will enable the visitor to see many more fine examples of these unique techniques. A five minute walk leads to the Djemaa El Fna. As we have come to expect from the Angsana group of hotels, the guest’s wellbeing is of prime importance, and here it is expressed in the provision of a Spa treatment room and hammam as well as rooftop Jacuzzi and a broad range of up-to-date facilities.

Destination introduction

The rich history of Marrakech is reflected in its various quarters. the Medina, above which rises the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, the emblem of the city, corresponds to the old town. Place Jemaa El-Fna, the hub of all activity, is its heart. Within the ramparts are the souks (north of Place Jemaa El-Fna), the kasbah and the mellah (the Jewish quarter). Gueliz in the northwest, is the new town laid out by Marhsal Lyautey under the Protectorate. It is filled with Western style offices and businesses.

Avenue Mohamed V is the district's main thoroughfare. Extending Gueliz in  the southwest is Hivernage, a verdant quarter with many hotels that also dates from the Protectorate. The district is bordered on its western side by the Menara Gardens, and on its eastern side by the walls of the medina.
