Riad Lydines

This destination:

Intriguingly, the name of this Riad means ‘House of the Hands’ and honours the craftsmen of Morocco, whose ancient skills continue to the present day, and have been employed to great effect in the restoration of this luxurious town house.

Moreover, all of the fine work – tadellakt, zellij, and carved cedar wood – that is evident throughout the riad has been carried out by hand in the time-honoured way. Barely a stone’s throw from the Saadian Tombs and the Royal Palace, the Riad Lydines is perfectly located for a visit to Marrakech, but is worth a visit in its own right. The team of European designers and Moroccan craftsmen that carried out the restoration has created something magical, a residence where elements of traditional decoration form the perfect background to a wide range of modern facilities.

The central feature is a stunning courtyards with a magnificent swimming pool and a huge, cushioned seating area, while the guestrooms and suited occupy the upper levels and open on to the central patio. Each room is individually decorated with stunning beds and exquisite finishing touches. There is also a Moroccan lounge and a well-stocked library, while the roof terrace, with its caidal tent, overlooks some of the finest views to be seen in the city. The whole delightful experience of a stay at this beautiful boutique hotel is completed with the provision of Angsana Spa treatments and a hammam.

Destination introduction

The rich history of Marrakech is reflected in its various quarters. the Medina, above which rises the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, the emblem of the city, corresponds to the old town. Place Jemaa El-Fna, the hub of all activity, is its heart. Within the ramparts are the souks (north of Place Jemaa El-Fna), the kasbah and the mellah (the Jewish quarter). Gueliz in the northwest, is the new town laid out by Marhsal Lyautey under the Protectorate. It is filled with Western style offices and businesses.

Avenue Mohamed V is the district's main thoroughfare. Extending Gueliz in  the southwest is Hivernage, a verdant quarter with many hotels that also dates from the Protectorate. The district is bordered on its western side by the Menara Gardens, and on its eastern side by the walls of the medina.
