La Sultana 'Marrakech'

La Sultana 'Marrakech'

This destination:

At La Sultana, a unique atmosphere is to be found. Created out of four historic riads, the hotel is dedicated to providing an exotic and restful setting for some serious self-indulgence. At its heart is a stunning heated pool surrounded by exposed brick walls that are actually part of the ancient Tombs of the Saadian Kings. Swimming here is a magical experience, only to be expected perhaps from a hotel and spa where bathing is a rite to be revered. Spa treatments include hammam, massage, hydrotherapy, sauna and Jacuzzi – all taking place in soothing and enchanting settings, and carried out by professionals.

Each of the riads has a different inspiration for its decoration – one is a showcase for Moroccan Art Deco, another is a masterpiece of intricately carved cedar wood and tadellakt. Each of the 21 rooms and suites, fragrant with sandalwood, scattered daily with rose petals, has a fireplace and modern facilities. Bedrooms open on to balconies or small courtyards, where birds come to drink at the fountains. A magnificent rooftop terrace is ringed by a skyline that is sheer magic as the sun goes down. Breakfast or lunch here can be particularly delightful, while dinner by the pool by lantern light will suit the most romantic heart. Larger parties can rent one or two of the riads or the entire hotel as private and independent residences.

Destination introduction

The rich history of Marrakech is reflected in its various quarters. the Medina, above which rises the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, the emblem of the city, corresponds to the old town. Place Jemaa El-Fna, the hub of all activity, is its heart. Within the ramparts are the souks (north of Place Jemaa El-Fna), the kasbah and the mellah (the Jewish quarter). Gueliz in the northwest, is the new town laid out by Marhsal Lyautey under the Protectorate. It is filled with Western style offices and businesses.

Avenue Mohamed V is the district's main thoroughfare. Extending Gueliz in  the southwest is Hivernage, a verdant quarter with many hotels that also dates from the Protectorate. The district is bordered on its western side by the Menara Gardens, and on its eastern side by the walls of the medina.
