La Maison Arabe

This destination:

La Maison Arabe is a small hotel, but, as in the stories of The Thousand and One Nights, which lend their names to the individual bedrooms, one enchantment leads to another

The hotel grew out of the highly regarded restaurant of the same name that was established here by two adventurous French women many years ago. Today it has its own cookery school, but this too is a secret only revealed to the guest at the right time! Exquisite rooms decorated in all the subtle colours that enrich Moroccan houses form the perfect background to delicate antiques but the bedrooms meet every modern expectation in their level of comfort and amenities. This is the perfect spot from which to explore the medieval city of Marrakech – the hotel lies very close to the great sixteenth century Bab Doukalla Mosque - but when the excitement of the city begins to be exhausting, the hotel’s best-kept secret is revealed. Just ten minutes drive away (there is an hourly complimentary shuttle service), is the hotel’s enchanting private garden, as close to the Moroccan ideal of an earthly paradise as you can get. Here too is a splendid swimming pool, and the famous cookery school, where you may well learn some more secrets – those of the art of Moroccan cuisine.

Destination introduction

The rich history of Marrakech is reflected in its various quarters. the Medina, above which rises the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, the emblem of the city, corresponds to the old town. Place Jemaa El-Fna, the hub of all activity, is its heart. Within the ramparts are the souks (north of Place Jemaa El-Fna), the kasbah and the mellah (the Jewish quarter). Gueliz in the northwest, is the new town laid out by Marhsal Lyautey under the Protectorate. It is filled with Western style offices and businesses.

Avenue Mohamed V is the district's main thoroughfare. Extending Gueliz in  the southwest is Hivernage, a verdant quarter with many hotels that also dates from the Protectorate. The district is bordered on its western side by the Menara Gardens, and on its eastern side by the walls of the medina.
