Dar Rhizlane

This destination:

Dar Rhizlane is a beautiful example of traditional Arabic architecture and craftsmanship, complemented by beautiful antiques and fine fabrics.

Dar Rhizlane stands in the heart of the Hivernage, the timeless residential district of Marrakech. This exquisite and quite palatial mansion stands amidst landscaped gardens of soothing serenity, with formal paths and Zen-like pools, with every kind of perfumed bush and tree from orange to jasmine and rose. A handsome swimming pool, shaded by palms, makes the most of this setting. At night, the garden is exquisitely lit by huge lanterns. The gorgeous rooms are distributed throughout two buildings of classic style; tall arches frame vistas of perfectly elegant rooms, furnished in richly glowing colours. With surroundings of such beauty and almost decadent comfort, it might be hard to move very far, but the fascination of Marrakech is a heady thing, and the Medina and the great Jemaa El Fna Square, that never seems to sleep, are just a short walk – but another world – away.

Destination introduction

The rich history of Marrakech is reflected in its various quarters. the Medina, above which rises the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, the emblem of the city, corresponds to the old town. Place Jemaa El-Fna, the hub of all activity, is its heart. Within the ramparts are the souks (north of Place Jemaa El-Fna), the kasbah and the mellah (the Jewish quarter). Gueliz in the northwest, is the new town laid out by Marhsal Lyautey under the Protectorate. It is filled with Western style offices and businesses.

Avenue Mohamed V is the district's main thoroughfare. Extending Gueliz in  the southwest is Hivernage, a verdant quarter with many hotels that also dates from the Protectorate. The district is bordered on its western side by the Menara Gardens, and on its eastern side by the walls of the medina.
